Team Leader Energy Data Sciences, CSIRO
Lachlan O’Neil is an early career data scientist and statistician from the CSIRO, Australia’s national science agency. He is part of the multidisciplinary team behind the National Energy Analytics Research (NEAR) Program – a multi-year collaboration between CSIRO, the Department of the Environment and Energy, and the Australian Energy Market Operator. Lachlan’s research brings together modern stochastic and machine learning methods for statistical analysis and modelling. ‘From farm to plate’, his work spans everything from initial survey design and data collection, through to the in-depth analysis, reporting and visualisation of results for both technical and non-technical audiences. Lachlan currently works on a number of projects aimed at better understanding the complex and changing nature of residential energy consumption in Australia, and the associated impacts on the nation’s energy grid.
